Sweet Saltines
If you are looking for an easy dessert recipe, look no further! This sweet treat uses under 5 ingredients. I've brought it to many family functions over the years. It's a hit every time! It's also my husband's most requested dessert.
Servings: 40 crackers
Equipment
- Jelly roll pan
- Aluminum foil
- Parchment paper
- Medium saucepan
- Spatula
- Whisk
- Measuring utensils
Ingredients
- 40 saltine crackers
- 2 sticks salted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farhneheight.
- Line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil. Place parchment paper on top of the foil. Line the tray wall to wall with approximately 40 saltine crackers. Try your best to make sure the crackers are covering the whole tray in a single layer. Using slightly more or less than 40 crackers to fit your pan will not affect the recipe.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add sugar and raise heat to medium-high. Whisk butter and sugar constantly so the sugar doesn't burn. Bring to a boil. Cook 2-3 minutes until the mixture is thick and foamy.
- Pour butter mixture over the crackers and spread evenly. Bake for 10 minutes. The crackers should be golden brown.
- Remove tray from the oven. Pour chocolate chips evenly over the crackers. Cover with aluminum foil for 2 minutes. Once you remove the foil, you should be able to easily spread the chocolate over the crackers. Cover and refrigerate for at least two hours until the crackers are set. Break apart into pieces before serving. Make sure you carefully remove all of the foil and parchment before breaking the crackers apart.
Notes
These Sweet Saltines can be easily customized! After spreading the chocolate chips over the crackers, you can add your favorite chopped candy, nuts, or sprinkles before they set up in the refrigerator.
