- 1.25 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground mustard
- 1/4 tsp bell pepper seasoning (I use the Pampered Chef brand)
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- pinch smoked paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
Brown ground beef in a large frying pan.
While the ground beef is cooking, dice onion and mince garlic. Set aside. Mix salt, black pepper, ground mustard, bell pepper seasoning, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Set aside.
Drain excess grease from the pan once the meat is browned. Add onion and garlic. Cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
Add seasoning mixture. Cook 1-2 minutes.
Add in remaining ingredients. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring often.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If the flavor is bland, add a few more drops of yellow mustard and/or a pinch of salt. Serve on soft hamburger rolls and enjoy!
- If you prefer a saucier sloppy joe, add more ketchup to achieve desired consistency.
- For more spice, double the cayenne pepper!
