Sloppy Joes
This classic is an easy weeknight meal that every family member will love. I can't eat these without thinking of the movie It Takes Two!
Servings: 4 people
Equipment
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Prep bowls/measuring utensils
- Cooking utensils
- Frying pan
Ingredients
- 1.25 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground mustard
- 1/4 tsp bell pepper seasoning (I use the Pampered Chef brand)
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- pinch smoked paprika
- 1 1/2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in a large frying pan.
- While the ground beef is cooking, dice onion and mince garlic. Set aside. Mix salt, black pepper, ground mustard, bell pepper seasoning, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Drain excess grease from the pan once the meat is browned. Add onion and garlic. Cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
- Add seasoning mixture. Cook 1-2 minutes.
- Add in remaining ingredients. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring often.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If the flavor is bland, add a few more drops of yellow mustard and/or a pinch of salt. Serve on soft hamburger rolls and enjoy!
Notes
- If you prefer a saucier sloppy joe, add more ketchup to achieve desired consistency.
- For more spice, double the cayenne pepper!
